Artist: Bara Bröst Album: Madame Mila & Fraulein Lea Members: Benjamin Quint, Markus Schwarzbauer Genre: DJ/Dance, World Music Label: BBE Tracks: 3 Type: Digital Release Date: August 24, 2010 Rating: ( )Grade: C+ I’m not an expert in the field of electronic music, but I’d like to think that I know enough to be dangerous. If you were to take a peek at my iPod, you’d find quite a few artists/bands grouped within the electronic genre: Daft Punk, MSTRKRFT, The Chemical Brothers, DIES, Propellerheads, Soulsavers, sports, and UNKLE. It’s not an exhaustive list by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s a decent sampling for me. I have a coworker who’s crazy about the whole techno/house world, but thus far I haven’t been able to bring myself to the same level of commitment and love that he has for that music. Which brings us to this EP from Bara Bröst, a producer duo from Berlin. This is the first I’ve heard from these guys and thus I may be judging them prematurely. But…these three tracks didn’t do much for me. They’re okay for what they are: more of a jazz/downtempo feel of electronica. But unfortunately they’re rather boring to me. Now in the context of a full album (which BB is releasing in September), they might fit in perfectly. There’s probably a much better flow than just this 3-track EP. But as it is, I was pretty bored by the whole thing. Elements of the tunes reminded me a bit of Dimitri From Paris, but if anything, this just sounded like something you’d hear in an elevator or as background music in a film montage. Oh and for those who are wondering: Bara Bröst is Swedish for “just breasts” and apparently comes from a feminist movement in Sweden to have women go topless in public. There’s your random fact for the day. |
