Il Divo is a talented group of guys from Italy that are still fairly young. The group consist of two tenors (Ignazio Boschetto and Piero Barone) and one Baritone (Gianluca Ginobleand) that have been singing since they were kids. Each group member was a stand out performer and was well recognized from each project they worked on. They never crossed paths until they had to compete against each other in a televised singing competition. After the competition, they decided to form Il Divo in 2010 and have been causing a storm in the opera and classical world ever since. "Take Flight" is a live concert CD from their performance at the Detroit Opera House.
Before listening to "Take Flight," I was a bit skeptical because I have never been a big fan of classical music. I listen to pretty much anything and everything except for Classical and Country. However, I was surprised with the CD and can honestly say I am a now a fan of Il Divo. They consider their music to be operatic pop and are trying to bring classical music to the masses. They all have amazing voices and impressive vocal range to go along with the epic instrumentals you come to expect from classical music. My favorite song was "Ti Volglio Tanto Bene" because it was little bit more upbeat than the other songs and it sounded great. Il Divo has a lot of talent and they showcase it very well on"Take Flight."
My only gripe with the CD was that the songs are great live, but not exactly something you would hear on the radio. With the exception of my favorite song, the other songs on the CD were not really catchy or memorable enough for me to want to sing along, and they were mostly in Italian. I would see them in concert and I think I would get a lot more from seeing them them live instead of hearing them on the radio. Other than that minor issue, I highly recommend this CD whether you are a fan of classical music or not. For those reasons, I am giving this CD a "B."
