When it comes to the electronica genre, few names are as big as or bigger than Moby. The award-winning artist has sold millions of albums and his music has appeared in film and on television. Destroyed is Moby's tenth studio album and like with Wait For Me, I was hoping for a change. Destroyed gets off to a rather slow start. The melodies are fairly low in volume and have a heavy bass aspect. I think the perfect way of describing the earlier tracks in the album is depressing. My initial impression was, "Oh great, it looks like we're going to have more of the same stuff I heard a few years ago." Thankfully, I'd be proven wrong. As the album went on, things began to change for the better. The pace began to increase and the vibes returned. Many of the later tracks have a more angelic spirit in them. In the end, I noticed there was a great progression to the album that you don't notice if you listen to it randomly or over long periods of time. Listen to the whole thing in a single sitting and you'll know what I'm talking about. Overall, Moby's Destroyed provides a much more enjoyable experience than some of his previous albums. It's not as good as his early work but it'll do. I found that the more I listened to the album, the more I started liking it. Typically it's the other way around. If you're a fan of Moby, you'll most likely enjoy Destroyed. Electronica fans will find that his style is very different than what you're probably used to but give it a chance and you may end up pleased with what you hear. |
