Set in beautiful Scotland, A Lonely Place To Die is a taut thriller with a fairly simple premise: five climbers discover a kidnapped girl who’s been hidden away in the mountains. Human decency naturally prevails and they decide to get her to the nearest town…but things are never quite what they seem. 

What follows is a pretty intense film, punctuated with moments of violence and bloodshed. I was pleasantly surprised by its tone and atmosphere. This is one of the better independent movies I’ve seen in a while. It’s the fourth film from director Julian Gilbey and it’s an impressive one. He’s definitely one to keep an eye on.

QUALITY:
The Blu-Ray transfer looks fantastic. The Scottish countryside is absolutely gorgeous. The overall color palette appears a bit washed out here and there, but it’s generally a good look.

BONUS FEATURES:
None to speak of, unless you consider the film’s trailer to be a special feature.

All in all, if you’re looking for a tense cat-and-mouse chase movie, A Lonely Place To Die is the perfect fit. Elements of the film reminded me a bit of Neil Marshall’s earlier works (Dog Soldiers and possibly The Descent) in a good way. This is a very solid indie release and well worth your time.
