Interesting fact about Charade: Universal Pictures pushed the through movie through with an invalid production notice, so the script is public domain! This means the movie could be remade, for profit, by anyone at any time--word for word. Considering the incredibly positive critical reciption Charade has enjoyed since its release, it's no surprise that it's be remade four times since.

Starring the legendary (and then powerhouse) combo of Hepburn & Grant, it's no surprise this movie was a hit. Crossing the genres of comedy, thriller, romance, & mystery, Charade has a little something for everyone; plus that added bonus of being able to watch it with your grandparents without having to cover your eyes.

The DVD release viewed here is the Unviersal 100th Anniversary edition which in includes a digital copy of the film (if downloaded by 12/32/13) and a prize code to win cash, electronics, or coupons. The book style cover opens to include details and facts about the movie, as well as a history of Universal's releases during that decade and year. Other extras include two featurettes about Universals's "Carl Leaemmle" and "Lew Wasserman" era as well as the obligatory theatrical trailer. I'm not sure  how that justifies as a bonus feature, however.

This classic movie will please many audiences old and new. However, it's pretty clear that Universal wants to target the NEW.  While many older films make the expensive transition to Blu-ray in order to cross the gap, I don't think that process would make sense nor serve this film in any worthwhile way. Making a digital copy of this movie available is a great step towards that forward thinking direction that will help make it enjoyable across generations.
