Title: Gone Starring: Molly Parker Director: Grant Harvey Studio: A&E Entertainment Runtime: 87 minutes Release Date: August 16, 2011 Format: DVD Discs: 1 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: C+ We begin with a man, running for his life. But the movie isn’t really about him. It’s about the next person we meet, Amy (Molly Parker), a woman who was attacked and raped three years ago, who has gone to therapy, taken self defence, learned to shoot a gun and driven a wedge between herself and her husband. A husband who is filing for divorce and for sole custody of their daughter. Amy’s life is a mess, and then it gets worse when her daughter goes missing. It is at this point in the film we are introduced to our first twist, Amy receives a phone call from the men who’ve taken her daughter. They promise to give her back, all she has to do is go to the hospital where she works and kill a patient, the man we saw at the opening of the film. Lifetime movies tend to come in two major flavors, heartwarming stories of families overcoming great odds or losses and women in peril. Gone is clearly the latter. They’ve taken her daughter, and she is seemingly a weak and broken woman, but she finds the strength to take to the fight to them and try to get her daughter back on her own terms. When watching the film it is best not to stare too long at the details or else the plot will unravel. But if you are willing to let go and just go along for the ride, it’s a interesting little tale with a handful of twists and a competently portrayed lead. It isn’t a great movie by any stretch, but you could do much worse with an hour and a half of your time. The DVD contains absolutely no extras, unless you consider scene selection an extra. |
