I’ve experienced Gustafer Yellowgold before when I reviewed Gustafer Yellowgold’s Infinity Sock and I thought that it had a lot of qualities that made it both weird and fun. Morgan Taylor is a great musician with a great voice but as I sat and watched Gustafer Yellowgold’s Year In A Day I just wasn’t feeling it. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason behind the songs or the animations that I could form into some sort of coherent silver lining.

Like Infinity Sock, Year In A Day comes with a music CD and a DVD of animated shorts that go along with the songs, sort of. I understood the zaniness that is Gustafer Yellowgold and that this was all just silly fun, but some of it made so little sense to me that it was like listening to a song with random words strung together and placed over an animated short that followed suit in the not being so catchy in the department of making sense. I don’t mean to sound mean but this installment of the series just felt phoned in as far as lyrical substance was concerned which amde the animations even odder.

That being said I was simply not able to enjoy myself like the last time I went on an adventure through Minnesota with Yellowgold. Maybe it simply comes down to this being one of those concepts that you need to spend a lot of time with, let it all seep in. The again considering that this is a project for kids, kids who lose interest in things very quickly, I foresee issues with new little fans to the series sitting still for this one.
