Steven Williams Director: La Monte Edwards Studio: Entertainment One Runtime: 124 minutes Release Date: January 18, 2011 Format: DVD Discs: 1 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: D- Special Features Commentary with Dwayne Clark and the director La Monte Edwards, Making of featurette Carter Blanche (played by Dwayne Clark) is a unflinching drug dealer, murderer, and someone who wants to be a rapper. Going out on the streets every day to enforce his rule over the people that owe him money leads him down a road that might hurt his career as a rapper but nothing will stop him from getting what he wants. While trying to get his rapping career going, Carter has to worry about having the members of his crew steal from him or going behind his back to give information about his drug dealing and killings to the FBI. Everything seems to be coming unglued around him because of money and hate and Carter Blanche will use all his power and connections to make it all work out. I’ve seen a lot of movies over the years, many have been low budget movies that are about thugs trying to make their lives better. At first I thought this is what ‘King of Paper Chasin’ was going to be about. It’s not. Instead this movie is about a guy that runs a gang, deals drugs, kills, and is a rapper. During the whole time this movie was playing I was confused as to what the point of the film was. By the end of it I realized there was no point at all. Is the main character trying to go straight? I don’t know but the way his character is portrayed in this movie I would have to say no. Someone that wants to go straight is not going to continue going around killing people nor is he going to treat people like they are dirt and less than nothing. At no point did I find this movie entertaining or interesting. With it being confusing on what the character is supposed to be doing, with not knowing what the point of the story is, and the horrible acting, ‘King of Paper Chasin’ was one long waste of my time. The only thing that I thought was done well in this movie was how some of the actors that were in the gang was able to show how self centered, careless, egotistical, and remorseless people can be. Now being a low budget film the cinematography can be a 50/50 chance on how it looks. With ‘King of Paper Chasin’, it’s the downside of the equation. There’s no stunning shots or angles being used in this movie, just the same textbook style shots that’s used on most movies that have no real imagination or guts to try something new. This lack of good shots only made the movie less interesting to me. Not only that but I was not impressed with most of the sets that was used. The only time that there was a good set was when they did on location shots in the city areas outside. All the interior shots are dull and bland. There’s little or near no real action in this movie, other than a few short scenes that involve someone being killed and there’s no plot, reason, or point to made it worth watching. Pictures: |
