Title: Mars Needs Moms Genre: Action/Adventure, Animation, Kids Starring: Joan Cusack, Seth Green, Dan Fogler Director: Simon Wells Studio: Walt Disney Studios Runtime: 88 minutes Release Date: August 9, 2011 Format: BLU-RAY Discs: 2 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: A+ Factoid: In Milo's room there is a poster of Mr. Incredible from the Pixar film The Incredibles. Disney’s Mars Needs Moms was a commercial flop that all but sent Robert Zemeckis’ Performance-Capture Animation to the grave, its still to be seen weather or not any studio will dust off this animation process in the future. Still, for a film that didn’t do so well at the box office everyone that I know who has seen it with their kids, and let’s remember this is a kids movie, loved it, including me and mine. The film is about a boy named Milo, voiced by Seth Dusky (Hop, Mr. Popper’s Penguins) but captured with Zemeckis’ animation transfer with Seth Green (Robot Chicken, Austin Powers Series), whose Mother is abducted by aliens. Caught in the take off, Milo is later found by the aliens and helped by an unexpected human named Gribble, played by Dan Fogler (Kung Fu Panda, Fanboys), who may or may not be Milo’s only hope of finding and rescuing his mother. With less then 7 hours to successfully complete the rescue the two heroes find help in a native named Ki, who has long suspected her world could be more beautiful then it really is. Will Milo save his Mom before it’s too late or will the power hungry Supervisor of Mars put an end to their attempts? It’s a pretty fantastic adventure that fortunately gets an amazing Blu-Ray transfer that will immerse you into the world of Mars Needs Moms. QUALITY: So the movie is immaculate looking but what about audio you say? My response. WOW! You have to give the film a bit to warm up, wait until we make first contact with our alien friends, then be prepared for full immersion. I was literally blown away by how good this movie sounds with Disney’s 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. Plenty of cross channel usage from dialogue pouring in all direction, bleeps and beeps, and the soundtrack, wow, forget about. I watched this one alone this morning and got all giddy just thinking about what an amazing experience its going to be having my nephews and nieces over to experience perfection at movie night. Draw the curtains, pop some popcorn, and be ready to have your living room transformed into an at home movie theater. I can’t praise this release enough. The disc also contains a DVS option.
