Title: Quarantine Genre: Horror Starring: Jennifer Carpenter, Steve Harris, Columbus Short, Jay Hernandez, Johnathon Schaech Director: John Erick Dowdle Studio: Sony Runtime: 89 minutes Release Date: February 17, 2009 Format: DVD Discs: 1 MPAA Rating: Rating: ( )Grade: D+ Bonus Features Commentary with Writer/Director & Writer/Producer, The Making Of, “Dressing The Infected: Robert Hall’s Make-Up Design”, Anatomy Of A Stunt, & Previews Angela has decided to do a piece on firemen and their dangerous job. Starting out there isn’t much to film other than a few interviews and the firehouse; but when a call comes in Angela and her cameraman make sure they are on the truck. They arrive at an apartment complex on what seems to be an old woman breaking down. But soon things take a turn for the worst as the building is quarantined and everyone is locked inside. More and more people seem to be getting sick and violent. As they try to piece things together more and more of their party start to fall victim. It becomes obvious that they are going to have to fight for their lives and try to find secret way out. If you got sick, nausea, or headaches from watching either “Cloverfield” or “Blair Witch” chances are that you will with this movie too. It is all shot first person style with a hand held camera, so it is shaky and whips around from time to time when something happens. The movie starts off pretty basic, building the characters a little leading up to the action. Then once they get to the apartment complex you still have some down time as odd things start to happen and a few violent scenes. Then things start to pick up. A lot of the movie is really dark so you really only can see clearly things that happen in front of the camera that has a light (later everything will go to green as they use night vision). Many of the scares come from things quickly moving or jerking in front of the camera, the kind that make you jump a little then wonder why that even got to you. There are some gory/violent scenes here and there. To me what got to me was Angela (Jennifer Carpenter). As she breaks down in the movie as fear sets in, her constant screaming and loud panicked breathing started annoying me. Granted in this situation I would probably be that panicked too; but it was just so over-the-top that I started wishing someone would slap her one good time to bring her to her senses. Not enough to ruin the movie; but enough to make me not care what happened to her character. As far as the movie goes, it is pretty basic outbreak/zombie movie. The plot is fairly generic, as are the scares and ending. One that zombie fans can make it through; but probably won’t be that excited once it is over and it may end up on your DVD shelf for sometime before you feel like re-watching it if you ever do.
