Apparently Charlestown in Boston, Massachusetts is home to some of the worst bank robbers and criminals in the state. Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) and his three buddies are four of them. After a semi-successful bank job in which the group holds the manager Claire (Rebecca Hall) hostage, Doug tails her to make sure she doesn't know anything or go to the FBI. Unfortunately he ends up falling in love with her as well. Love is a tricky thing, especially when you've held someone hostage at gunpoint.

The Town isn't so much about robbing banks but more about the people within the community. It's evident that Doug wants out but he's stuck in this never ending cycle. His best friend, Jem (Jeremy Renner), is part of the problem as well as he feel Doug owes it to him after taking the fall for a heist gone wrong and spending nine years in jail. When he's with Claire, Doug feels that he can finally escape the town for good.

While there is plenty of action on screen; there are three big money jobs and multiple small fights, suspense fills the majority of it. The whole time you know Doug's dark secret while Claire continues to live in her lovey-dovey fantasy world. There are times when she is on the brink of realizing what's really going on but Doug does well to cover it up. The whole time you're sitting there, wondering what's going to happen when she does indeed find out.

As for the action, it's rather intense. The Town has everything you could ask for in an action movie; a barrage of gunfire, car chases, oh and creepy nun masks. Maybe it was just me but gunfire in this film sounds a whole lot louder than normal. Perhaps it was just the theater I was in. Either way, it makes those scene all the more explosive. My only wish was that there were more of these scenes.

The acting is decent. Jeremy Renner puts on the strongest performance while Ben Affleck does an okay job as well. Affleck's Boston accent comes off a bit forced and there are times where you even wonder what he's saying it's so hacked up. Vocal imperfections aside, you get a real feel for each character and their reasoning.

The Town has it all; suspense, action, drama. It can get somewhat talkative at points and the accents get out of hand but this is one movie Affleck can be proud of.
