Show: Man in a Suitcase Season/Volume: Set One Genre: Drama Starring: Richard Bradford, Derren Nesbitt, John Carson, James Villiers, Jayne Sofiano Studio: Acorn Media Runtime: 779 minutes Release Date: January 25, 2011 Format: DVD Discs: 4 Rating: ( )Grade: D+ McGill is a former US Intelligence agent who has been forced to resign and has moved to Britain to work as a private detective and do whatever odd jobs were available. As a result, many of the tasks he's assigned to lead him straight into danger. While the show is UK based, it does appear to US viewers with its American lead, Richard Bradford. He's typically calm and collective, always weighing every option and looking into every opportunity. His demeanor can be somewhat dull when he's not caught up in a fight or conflict. In essence, he attempts to be a cross between James Bond and MacGyver, but never really finds a character of to call his own. There are some shows that hold up from decades ago and some that don't. Man in a Suitcase is one of the later. Coming from the sixties, the crime drama appears outdated and quite boring. For it's time, Man in a Suitcase was one of the most realistic television shows around, with McGill actually receiving injuries. He's a real person rather than just another character on screen. Watching it now, it's not something that really catches your eye. For me, it's just another show. Man in a Suitcase: Set One is for the fans who grew watching McGill and the like. If you've never seen and enjoyed the show before, I think it'll be difficult to get into it. There are a few episodes that manage to capture my attention but overall, I found it to be dull and boring at times. It's clearly not for everyone. |
