Show: Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle Season/Volume: OVA Collection Genre: Anime Starring: Christopher R. Sabat, Monica Rial, Justin Liebrecht, Vic Mignogna Studio: Funimation Runtime: 150 minutes Release Date: January 4, 2011 Format: DVD Rating: ( )Grade: D The Tsubasa OVA Collection features two extra chapters added to the saga, Tokyo Revelations and Spring Thunder. They continue the adventures of Syaoran and his company in search of the remaining enchanted feathers that will restore Sakura's lost memory. I had seen the first season of the anime and while nothing special, it was pretty easy to follow. The OVA Collection however, is not. While they take place directly after the broadcast series ended, the story splits off in so many directions it's difficult to keep up. You never really know who is good and who is bad, or what's going on for that matter. Plus, the transition between Tokyo Revelations and Spring Thunder is horrendous. Tsubasa is the one of the most confusing animes I've seen. Perhaps the only aspect of the show I enjoyed was the music. It always kicks in at the right moment, making the battles more epic and brings the action together. It's the only memorable quality about the anime. Tsubasa should have ended with the regular broadcast, and even that was pushing it. These extra five episodes that comprise the OVA Collection only make you want to hate the series all together. Granted Tokyo Revelations is better than Spring Thnuder but that really isn't saying much. |
