It's a good thing that this review only requires me to write it instead of having to speak it because if I had to pronounce the name of the group then I would end up failing. Verskotzi is the name of the band, which is named after the Joey Verskotzi who does the vocals on the album "Lemon Heart". This is the debut album for Joey Verskotzi and it's one that might be a pop style album but the songs have a personal connection with the singer. Since I don't know the man I can't say for sure that these songs are how he is truly feeling/thinking or if he is just a good songwriter to give such a personal feel to the songs even when it's not true. For a debut album Joey Verskotzi has started off strong enough that he should be taken notice of.

While I wasn't hooked on the songs right from the start I was still able to hear that the songs are good. Vocals are the first noticeable portion of the songs for me with the raspy voice of Joey Verskotzi, well, after the name of course, but he does have a raspy voice that is strong. Without that raspy quality to his voice these songs wouldn't have as much of a emotional impact as they do. It's his vocals that give the songs more feeling and making them sound like a personal confession of his instead of just another song being sung. Verskotzi has a strong, solid voice as well as a ear for knowing when to change his tempo to keep the songs flowing nicely.

Aside from the vocals the instruments come together nicely. There are some moments that the songs have a jingle to them that could easily become liked. These songs are also good for radio play and should have a lot of air time considering how well the songs are played. Not to mention that almost all of the songs have a catchy beat to them or lyrics that make it hard to not at least get some enjoyment from listening to them. Having the lyrics being so open and having his feelings put out there for the listeners to hear is what takes away from the songs for me, but that's a personal judgment and I know that there are a lot of people that will like how these songs are that emotional quality. Still, like I said, I can hear the talent that this man has and it's enough to know that he should be making more records because he will get a large following.
