Artist: Diddy-Dirty Money Album: Last Train to Paris Members: Sean Combs, Kalenna Harper, Dawn Richards Label: Bad Boy Records Tracks: 16 Type: LP Release Date: December 14, 2010 Rating: ( )Grade: A- Last Train to Paris is the debut album from the mind of Diddy with the collaboration of the new hip-hop duo, Dirty Money. Joining Dawn Richards and Kalenna Harper are numerous guest appearances such as Lil Wayne, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, etc. The first thing you'll notice about Last Train is that it isn't your stereotypical hip-hop album. For one thing, Diddy is barely featured in it, vocally that is. Dirty Money lend their voices as the primary vocal talent, with the majority of songs featuring one or another guest artist. One surprise is that the late Notorious B.I.G. makes a fitting appearance in "Angels." The track uses vocals from his Life After Death album so it's nothing new but definitely refreshing to hear his voice again. What I really enjoyed about the album is the electronica/dance aspect of it. The hip-hop vocals complement the upbeat music excellently. Neither one ever overpowers the other, and there is enough variety to always make it feel like you're listening to a track for the first time. The longer you listen to Last Train to Paris, the more it grows on you, with "Hello Good Morning" and "I'm Coming Home" being particular standouts. Diddy works wonders behind the scenes and Dirty Money is a welcomed addition to the hip-hop scene. If there's one rap album you check out this year, let this one be it. |
